As we remember lovingly all the
Victims of the Terrorist Attack
on America and the world ~
September 11, 2001
Dear Friends of Carmel,
The month of November is traditionally dedicated in the Catholic Church to prayer for the faithful departed. It is regrettable that this year our entire nation was plunged into mourning over the tragic deaths of our people in the attacks on the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and the hijacked plane in Pennsylvania. We share with you in a special way the grief and mourning of our nation as we recall the events of September 11th. May Our Lord be merciful to those who died in the tragedy and grant them eternal glory in His Kingdom. And may He grant His gift of peace on earth that we may never again experience such diabolical hatred and disregard for human life on American soil or any place in the world.
The following inspiring words of our President, spoken at the Prayer Service in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on September 14th, are a thoughtful meditation for all of us in this time of sorrow:
"God's signs are not always the ones we look for. We learn in tragedy that His purposes are not always our own. Yet the prayers of private suffering, whether in our homes or in this great Cathedral, are known and heard, and understood. There are prayers that help us last through the day, or endure the night. There are prayers of friends and strangers that give us strength for the journey. And there are prayers that yield our will to a will greater than our own. This world God created is of moral design. Grief and tragedy and hatred are only for a time. Goodness, remembrance, and love have no end. And the Lord of life holds all who die, and all who mourn." President Bush, National Prayer Service
Let us join together in heartfelt prayer for those who lost
their lives in this terrible tragedy, for their grieving families
and friends, and for all the dedicated firemen, policemen and
rescue workers. As always, we remember in prayer our own beloved
dead and all the faithful departed. May they be receiving the
reward of their life of faith, and may God our merciful Father,
let His Face shine upon them and give them peace, especially our
dear ones and friends who have died in this past year.
May our Blessed Mother Mary, Mother of Sorrows, intercede for
all those who have gone before us into Eternal Life, and may God
bestow on them and upon us all His loving Mercy, His comfort and
His peace.
